Public Relations Internship at Pennsylvania Horticulture Society
Job Title: Public Relations Intern
Job Status: 24 hours/week nine months
Location: Philadelphia, PA
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) seeks a part-time Public Relations Intern to work closely with the Associate Director of Communications. The internship will run from September 2022 to May 2023. The intern must be available 24 hours a week in addition to be available to work 40 hours a week during the 2023 Philadelphia Flower Show, March 4-12. The schedule is flexible through the duration to accommodate for school schedules. This position will receive a stipend of $3,000. College credit is also available.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supports the implementation of communications plans and strategies by:
- Drafting and developing press materials such as press releases, media alerts, pitches, and other related documents where needed, including communications materials for the Philadelphia Flower Show.
- Supporting coordination and staffing of press events such as the Philadelphia Flower Show Press Conference, or on-site media calls for various PHS programs.
- Drafting and developing miscellaneous communications documents as needed.
- Tracking media coverage and archiving press clips.
- Utilizing PR software to archive and research media contact lists, as well as creating campaign reports.
- Researching appropriate media contacts and outlets and distributing targeted pitches and press materials.
- Assisting in booking PHS spokespeople for relevant media opportunities.
- Assisting with various cross functional marketing projects as necessary.
- Uploading and formatting external communications materials to website.
- Other administrative and organizational tasks as needed.
Experience and Skills Required

- Strong writing skills, proficiency in drafting public relations materials
- Strong research skills and ability to research effectively and independently
- Proven track record of success in any aspect of communications and marketing
- Ability to prioritize effectively and work independently
- Ability to propose and implement fresh ideas that support strategy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of social media platforms a plus
- Knowledge of public relations software such as Meltwater, Cision, or Muck Rack a plus
- Prior event planning/production experience a plus
