Description
The Corporate Relations Officer will strengthen the financial capacity of The Phillips Collection by managing a portfolio of current and prospective corporate partners. The incumbent will work creatively to match corporate interests with museum priorities, cultivate relationships, develop funding proposals, and fulfill partner benefits. The incumbent will secure $500,000+ in revenue annually, with growth in subsequent years, to support general operations; special exhibitions; digital initiatives; education and community engagement programs; diversity, equity, access, and inclusion (DEAI) initiatives; capital needs; and special events. The Corporate Relations Officer will work as part of a three-person institutional giving team—including the Director of Foundation, Government, and Corporate Affairs and the Grants Manager—within the museum’s Development Department. This position will work with the Development Department to cultivate a more diverse pipeline of prospective donors, evaluating and enhancing all aspects of fundraising so as to better incorporate the museum’s commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEAI). Progressive fundraising experience and the ability to close significant gifts should be demonstrated in your application.
Essential Functions
• Secure $500,000+ in annual corporate contributions that support exhibitions, digital initiatives, education and community engagement programs, DEAI initiatives, capital needs, general operations, and special events
• Advance relationships with current corporate partners, ensuring a high-level of engagement and satisfaction
• Conduct prospect research, develop and implement cultivation strategies to engage new corporate partners and build a pipeline of potential supporters
• Manage the museum’s Corporate Roundtable Program
• Collaborate with the Grants Manager to identify corporate grant opportunities, actively participate in proposal development and reporting
• Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to develop collateral material for presentations, Corporate Roundtable initiatives, and opportunities for partner recognition
• Execute corporate sponsorship agreements; ensure proper stewardship and benefit fulfillment
• Lead corporate fundraising efforts for the Annual Gala
• Work with the Director of Foundation, Government, and Corporate Affairs on devising and implementing strategies that mutually engage partners within our portfolios
• Manage peer-to-peer corporate fundraising efforts in coordination with leadership and trustees
• Forge excellent working relationships with staff across the institution to gain understanding of the museum’s priorities, programs, initiatives; engage staff in corporate proposal development, meetings, and events
• Serve as an external ambassador for the museum, network at external events and meetings
• Research and stay informed of corporate philanthropy trends and activity in the DC-metropolitan area and the field of arts and culture
• Collaborate with the Director of Foundation, Government, and Corporate Affairs in managing embassy partnerships
• Manage corporate contact lists, ensuring current partners and prospects receive appropriate communications and event invitations
• Track pertinent relationships and interactions in customer relationship management (CRM) database, Altru
• Participate in Development Department and institutional giving-related meetings
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Five years of frontline fundraising experience required
• Proven ability to cultivate, secure, and steward funding
• Experience in devising strategic approaches to donor engagement
• Commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion
• Knowledge of current trends in corporate philanthropy
• Ability to establish priorities, take initiative, manage numerous assignments simultaneously
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, handle sensitive material, and maintain confidentiality
• Ability to handle relationships and conversations with diplomacy
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, TEAMS, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Knowledge of donor database system (Raiser’s Edge or Altru preferred)
• Hybrid work schedule and flex hours permitted
• Some evening work required
