The Research Assistant Fellow will be processing a large collection of historical records, including interview transcripts, chapter drafts and other narrative and non-narrative documents, to facilitate the eventual completion of a book. This will primarily involve reading archival records and cutting and pasting their contents into a series of chronological and thematic Word files. Some transcription of recorded conversations may also be required, where possible using software that will do most of the basic transcribing.
Once that processing work is done, the contractor may be asked to further assist on the book’s historical and contextual research, involving the consultation of archival resources at Pace gallery and in various libraries and research institutions.
What You’ll Bring:
- MA degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, Art Criticism, or other equivalent experience.
- Research experience required along with in-depth knowledge of 20th Century and Contemporary Art.
- Intellectual curiosity, passionate about arts and culture, and exemplary critical thinking, research, writing, and copy-editing abilities.
- Strategic thinking, strong organizational skills, and ability to multitask, thriving in a fast-paced environment with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity and proficiency Microsoft Office suite, digital scanning applications, Adobe, project management tools.
- Flexibility and strong follow-through on work assignments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with staff, interns, outside individuals, and organizations.
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail, and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and with a team while exhibiting a professional and responsible attitude.
- Familiarity conducting research in libraries and archives and traveling and researching at off-site New York locations, as needed.
- Spoken and written fluency in English required
