Description
Under the direction of the Senior Registrar, the Associate Registrar, Exhibitions will manage registration of objects in exhibitions, and will function as a liaison between the internal and external elements of exhibition planning and realization with an emphasis on logistics, documentation and risk management.
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Office hours are Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm, flexibility is available as needed. Occasional nights and weekends as needed.
- On site work is required of this position, following all Covid-19 guidelines in accordance with the CDC and other government agencies.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Budget, arrange and oversee packing and transit, documentation, and inventory control of exhibitions to and from the High, both domestic and international.
- Produce applications for commercial fine arts insurance, US Federal Indemnity and Immunity from Seizure, and manage compliance.
- Evaluate and recommend professional practices observed by potential borrowers of High organized touring exhibitions.
- Prepare and facilitate execution of documents related to loan and exhibition of works of art.
- Monitor and document conditions of works of art and their environment.
- Maintain exhibition and loan related computerized and manual documentation systems.
- Coordinate vendors and on-site work in collaboration with registration staff and according to established schedule.
- Collaborate and communicate with museum staff by participating fully in team meetings and shared calendars, understanding overall priorities and direction.
- Respond to exhibition, loan, and registration related inquires.
- Assist departmental budget planning, forecasting and processing expenses for payment.
- Assist in maintaining the registration workspaces, ordering supplies, keeping equipment maintained, and assisting others in the use of equipment.
- Collaborate with other registrars, collections managers, suppliers, and other professionals outside the museum as needed to assist in identifying new standards, techniques, and current trends that will enhance our ability to provide care and access to the collection and its records.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned by the Senior Registrar.
Requirements
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, able to juggle multiple projects, and highly respectful of deadlines.
- Knowledge of preventive conservation and proper art handling.
- Knowledge of ethical principles and professional practices governing museum registration.
- Familiarity with The Museum System (TMS) or comparable collections management system.
- Expert knowledge in Windows Platforms: Adobe Pro, Microsoft Office 365.
- The position requires flexibility and a “can do” attitude.
- Must be able to lift 20 to 30 pounds and climb ladders.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Must have experience in data entry and collections care.
- Three to four years’ experience at an archive, gallery, museum, artist studio, museum service, or private collection is required.
- Undergraduate degree in art history, museum studies or a related field is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to effectively present information.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Ability to solve problems and prioritize needs in a variety of situations.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
