Description

The National World War II Museum seeks a skilled, innovative, and collaborative professional to serve as the Exhibit Production Manager who will be responsible for the daily care and upkeep of permanent exhibit components, ensuring they are maintained to a high level and conducting or arranging repairs when required, as well as exhibition production, installation, and de-installation of both temporary exhibitions and long-term installations. Reporting to the Senior Director of Exhibits, the Exhibit Production Manager will assist with project planning, management, and task distribution and will coordinate closely with developers, fabricators, vendors, and contract service providers to execute the project strategy, goals, and design direction. The Exhibit Production Manager also manages the preparation and maintenance of the museum’s permanent exhibits (including painting, lighting, scenic displays, and exhibition furniture); matting, framing, and mounting artifacts and works of art; and preparation of budgets for maintaining and upgrading design, exhibition furniture, framing, gallery lighting, and shop supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, refurbish, modify and improve existing permanent exhibits in collaboration with the Senior Director of Exhibits.
  • Conduct preventative and routine maintenance and repairs on all permanent exhibits. Where possible, effect immediate repairs, and assess the need for changes in design or materials. When required, acquire parts, equipment or external expertise to assist in effecting repairs.
  • Create and maintain exhibit task list database or spreadsheet in collaboration with the Senior Director of Exhibits.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate the fabrication, construction, and/or production of temporary exhibitions and long-term installations including exhibit walls, cases, scenic displays, multi-media presentations, and interactives.
  • Construct and install museum exhibit structures and other elements using a range of materials and tools/equipment.
  • Oversee production quality, supply stock, and equipment upkeep.
  • Coordinate and participate in installation and de-installation of temporary exhibitions.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in art, design, architecture, or related field from an accredited college, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of five years of related work experience, preferably in a museum environment.
  • Ability to work with hand tools and power tools to fabricate and maintain museum exhibits.
  • Knowledge of carpentry, welding, and paint/scenic production.
  • Familiarity with modern production tools (CNC routers, 3D printers, laser cutters, etc.) preferred but not required along with basic use of CAD software to submit production drawings for review.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing and installing special exhibitions including wall, platform and case construction.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong oral, written, and visual communication skills as well as strong organizational skills.
