JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Robert and Elizabeth Owens Curatorial Fellow will draw on knowledge and experience with the institution and objects to work with curatorial staff on a variety of projects. Duties may include work in any or all of the collection media including, but not limited to, furniture, paintings, prints, metals, glass, textiles, and ceramics. Specific duties will be assigned on a project basis and may include, but are not limited to, collections management, exhibitions content development, and collections-based research. Core duties will include administrative support that contribute to the effectiveness of the department including answering research enquiries, escorting visitors and researchers into the collections, assisting with acquisitions and deaccessioning, providing content for programs and social media, and providing administrative support for the Director of Collections.

This is a full time, benefits eligible fellowship with an end date of June 30, 2023.

Compensation: Equivalent of $32,200/year

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administrative support that contribute to the effectiveness of the department including answering research enquiries and providing administrative support for the Director of Collections.
  2. Escorting visitors and researchers into the collections
  3. Assisting with acquisitions and deaccessioning
  4. Providing content for programs and social media
  5. Specific duties will be assigned on a project basis and may include, but are not limited to, collections management, exhibitions content development, and collections-based research.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Experience: M.A. in a subject related to American decorative and fine arts and at least one year of cumulative experience working either as staff or as an intern in a decorative arts or related department.

Knowledge/Skills:

1. Familiarity with collections media including, but not limited to, furniture, paintings, prints, metals, glass, textiles and ceramics

2. A demonstrated fluency in social media platforms

3. Knowledge of, or familiarity with, the Winterthur collection or a similar decorative and fine arts collection

4. Fluency in the history of American material culture

5. Significant attention to detail and excellent organization skills; ability to hold self and others to high standards

6. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

7. Strong interpersonal skills, including public speaking, and the ability to interact with a variety of personalities diplomatically

Essential Functions:

1. Ability to lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds

2. Ability to work at a computer for up to 8 hours a day

3. Able to maneuver in small and tight spaces

4. Valid driver’s license is required

5. After training, must be able to pass care and handling of objects test

Work Schedule: 35-hour work week; Monday–Friday
