(Part-time) Student Job Search – Photovoice Exhibit Summer 2022 at Columbia University

Student Job Search – Photovoice Exhibit Summer 2022

The Trust Project at Columbia’s Interdisciplinary Center for Innovative Theory and Empirics (INCITE) seeks a consultant, designer, and coordinator to support the launch of an exhibit based on the photovoice stories of community health workers (CHWs). CHWs play a critical role as trusted mediators between patients, doctors, and the communities they serve. With this exhibit, we intend to critically examine the trust relationships CHWs developed vis-à-vis patients and hospitals during the pandemic. The goal of the photovoice method is to change public health policies and make policymakers and influencers aware of situations in the community and beyond. In this spirit, we intend to heighten the critical work of CHWs in the public sphere and offer a space to educate policymakers and hospital leaders in NYC about the systemic issues plaguing the medical field. We plan to launch the exhibit within the institutional space at Columbia and move it subsequently to community venues in the Bronx and Harlem.

We seek qualified candidates with the following skills:
  • Experience developing and launching an exhibit
  • Knowledge of creating an evocative, publicly-engaged exhibit website
  • Initiative and resourcefulness to bring the project to successful completion
  • Ability to communicate and translate between diverse audiences and stakeholders
  • Effectiveness of working in a team
Preferred skills also include:
  • Familiarity with local arts and community centers, non-profit organizations, and/or medical schools and hospitals in the Bronx and/or Harlem
  • Experience advertising and creating accessible exhibit formats for diverse audiences

We are offering pay of $25/hour for MA students and $30/hour for PhD students. The anticipated start date is March, and the position will run through the summer of 2022. We expect considerable flexibility around scheduling aside from a few key dates this summer. Please send a C.V. or resume and a brief description of yourself to cfc2149@columbia.edu.
