(Part-time) Community Engagement Coordinator at Voelker Orth Museum

Description:

The Voelker Orth Museum (VOM), located in an 1890s Landmarked house in Flushing, is working to rekindle and expand its relationships with community groups and audience as we emerge from the pandemic. The Museum seeks a part-time Community Engagement Coordinator to advance this work. We aim to welcome back families & individuals, school groups, and cultivate new relationships with our community.

It is a moment for some fresh perspectives on our programming – incorporating ideas for a new interpretive plan and our recent social media/virtual programming experiences. We aim to start FY23 with clear goals and strategies. In strengthening our ties to community organizations, we can enrich our programs and cultivate mutual support over time. The Museum is part of a technical assistance initiative (Of/By/For All) to help us facilitate this work.

Responsibilities

  • Representing VOM at events, in partnership cultivation, & covering selected VOM events
  • Review & assessment of publicity, marketing & social media strategies
  • In concert with other staff, creation of programming, publicity and social media posts
  • Key VOM representative to Of/By/For All technical assistance project in FY22
  • Cultivation/planning meetings with community groups
  • Participating in the development and implementation of VOM’s new Interpretive plan
  • This position reports to the Director and involves work with staff, board & volunteers

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years previous work experience in similar role
  • Knowledge/awareness of Queens/NYC cultural landscape
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent time-management/logistics skills
  • Experience with social media production, tracking, demographics
  • Experience with publicity/marketing
  • Ability to work independently and with other staff
  • Flexibility in schedule to meet with/attend community activities
  • Experience working with a small museum or similar non-profit is preferred
  • Korean or Chinese language fluency is welcome, but not required.
  • This position requires time at the Museum but can function as a hybrid position.

This is a new 21 hour a week position, with benefits.
