Lecturer in Museum Studies at George College and State University

The Department of Art invites applications to a full-time lecturer position in Museum Studies. Responsibilities include a 2/2 teaching load in our Museum Studies concentration, management of our two exhibition spaces, Leland Art Gallery and Underwood House, and management of Georgia College’s fine art collection.

The Department of Art offers a B.A. in Art with four concentrations: Studio Art, Graphic
Design, Art History and Museum Studies. The MS program is unique in our region, being the only undergraduate program preparing majors to work or pursue graduate studies within this field. The successful candidate will spearhead the MS program, working alongside one or two part-time faculty members and as part of the Art History & Museum Studies area. They will teach courses in museum theory, practice and methods, and mentor MS capstone students. An interdisciplinary, collaborative, and global perspective is desired. Opportunities for curriculum development and additional support through professional leave after the sixth year, professional
development funding, internships and summer teaching are available.

The hire will also oversee Leland Art Gallery and Underwood House, in collaboration with our Gallery Technician. Located within Ennis Hall, Leland is our primary space for showcasing the work of our students, faculty, and guest artists. Underwood is located one block from Ennis and variously functions as an exhibition, studio and teaching space. It also houses a large portion of Georgia College’s fine art collection. The hire will manage the designated budget and will be responsible for programming and curating yearly exhibits, organizing artist talks, handling events, managing student interns, building relations with other departments and institutions, and coordinating press releases and publicity. In addition, they will curate our fine art collection, which consists of around 2200 pieces. We seek someone who can design and lead a robust collection acquisition policy and program.

Finally, the hire would fulfill limited service responsibilities within the Art Department and the college.
