QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate students in the history of art, archaeology, anthropology, art administration, and classics are preferred. Museum or gallery experience is desirable. Friday and Weekend availability required. Student must be eligible for federal work-study. There are a few non workstudy positions available but they are limited.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Exhibitions Department of the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (ISAW) invites applications from qualified graduate students for the position of Gallery Attendant. The institute organizes two exhibitions annually in our galleries supporting ISAW’s interdisciplinary and cross cultural approach to the ancient world. The Gallery Attendant will be asked to perform a wide variety of educational and gallery related duties including but not limited to greeting visitors, providing information about the exhibition and ISAW, collecting and reporting visitor data, handling all catalogue/merchandise sales and financial records around these sales, and assisting members of the exhibition staff with various research and administrative projects. Note: Supervisor will meet with students once a month to discuss performance.

HOURS:

Students are permitted to work up to 20 hours/week while classes are in session, and up to 35 hours when classes are not in session. Gallery Attendants will be asked to work a selection of our open exhibition hours (Wednesday through Sundays, 11am-6pm, and Fridays 11am-8pm), and additional hours during evening events including through NYU breaks.
