Position Summary

The National Constitution Center is creating innovative and interactive Social Studies educational online content for high school students. We are seeking an experienced educational content writer to partner with us to create engaging learning content. This position will support the development of curriculum and assessment for the NCC, which includes new program development and revisions, as well as training teachers across the country on these tools and programs.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work with NCC Education and Content teams to create curriculum design standards and methodologies based on innovative pedagogies and best practices that result in high quality teaching and learning experiences
  • Provide expertise on effective assessment methodology and direct measures of student learning, designing instruments, sampling student work, data analysis, and reporting for continuous improvement
  • Work with CLO to establish alignment with standards for assessment and rubrics for curricular and co-curricular activities and program reviews
  • Collaborate with CLO to ensure all program development and revisions follow established standards for the NCC
  • Work with subject matter experts to ensure application of curriculum development, philosophy, and understanding of NCC culture and student demographics
  • Support new course development and revision project plans. Assist with development and implementation of viable new programs and support materials
  • Work with the Education team to create and maintain templates for program, course, and assessment development
  • Maintain all program related documentation; work with CLO to ensure that appropriate documentation supporting course offerings exists including, but not limited to, course frameworks and syllabi
  • Coordinate with all parties involved in the curriculum development process to ensure accountability
  • Coordinate priorities and project plans related to curriculum and assessment across programs 
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and implement results of assessments and program reviews into actionable project plans for curriculum and course delivery revisions
  • You will be responsible for writing lesson overviews, lesson studies, study guides and assessments focused on high school social studies content
  • As a writer, you will be responsible for incorporating the standards and objectives within the scope and sequence into the content
  • Interpret internal project leads feedback; implement revisions without going outside the scope of what is being asked
  • Develop interactive activities to complement and support NCC resources and videos
  • The writer will need to understand the nuances of the NCC’s Constitutional Course content and modify the tools for development into online course formatting
  • Innovation in writing is key to writing engaging content within guidelines at a level of middle school students
  • State Course review for alignment and adoption by state guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Three years or more of professional experience and leadership in education, specifically in the areas of online program and course development.
  • Instructional design experience.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, masters preferred.
  • Excellent communication, project management, conceptual, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Recent experience writing online high school social studies educational content is required
  • Experience writing social studies content for many states is preferred, but not required
  • Must understand a scope and sequence and how to write to cover the standards and objectives within the scope and sequence and resource texts used in the states
  • Ability to write independently while taking direction; proactively ask questions to confirm understanding of requests
  • Familiarity with developing interactives from provided templates
  • Ability to understand, review, and comprehend existing guidelines assigned by our teams
  • Efficiency and the ability to turn around writing assignments within 3-4 days, and within 2 days at the revision stage 
  • Sample assignments will be assigned to qualified candidates
  • Conducting education professional development programs and teacher trainer experience a bonus

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
  • Standing and walking may be required on an infrequent basis
  • Some light lifting, twenty (20) pounds or less, may be required on an infrequent basis
