Remote Pilot Curatorial Fellowship Program at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is currently accepting applications for its graduate Curatorial Fellowship Program. This remote fellowship program will begin on Monday, November 29, 2021, and end on Friday, February 18, 2022 (there will be a brief break between December 24 and January 7). The fellowship program requires a commitment of 20 hours per week for ten weeks, including attendance at Professional Development Seminars. The experience will be completely virtual. No on-site work at the museum or its offices is expected.

The Curatorial Fellowship Program is a paid opportunity. We are pleased to offer a stipend in the amount of $4,000 to each fellow for full participation in the program.

Curatorial Fellowship Program Description

The objective of the graduate Curatorial Fellowship Program is to provide practical training experience to graduate students interested in pursuing careers in the arts and museum fields. Fellows gain a broad understanding of how the Curatorial Department functions within the context of the Guggenheim, as well as specific knowledge and skills related to curation. Under the supervision of designated staff mentors, fellows complete individual projects, attend meetings, and participate in ongoing conversations and processes within the department.

Professional Development Seminars

The Professional Development Seminars (PDS) is a space to build community amongst fellows and to experience the many facets of work at the museum. Adding onto the amazing work fellows do in the curatorial department, this seminar is a collaborative and supportive learning environment that allows fellows to deepen their understanding of the Curatorial Department’s role in the greater museum mission. Fellows ar required to participate in these semi-regular meetings with the Academic Engagement Department, which provide an opportunity to share resources, learn more about the museum’s collection through close-looking exercises, and network with colleagues across cultural institutions. Ultimately, the seminar is a space to solve problems, connect new ideas, and expand ways of seeing and knowing. Seminars will be held via Zoom throughout the fellowship period. Attendance is mandatory.
