Research Assistant at Hauser & Wirth Institute

Hauser & Wirth Institute seeks a self-directed part-time Research Assistant for the digital catalogue raisonné projects Franz Kline Paintings, 1950–1962 and Eva Hesse Drawings. Reporting to the Director of the Franz Kline catalogue raisonné and to the Institute’s Executive Director, the Research Assistant will aid with research on Franz Kline’s oil-on-canvas paintings executed between 1950 and 1962, with additional administrative and database tasks related to the Eva Hesse Drawings catalogue raisonné (CR). The Research Assistant is responsible for reviewing existing bibliography and exhibition history records, visiting local libraries to conduct research, and entering and editing information in the online CR
platform. Other tasks include:

● Maintaining and organizing backup files of all scanned materials, images, and other information gathered during research
● Helping to standardize CR entries according to an internal style guide
● Scanning all information forms received from collectors and uploading them to the CR database
● Managing image requests and rights for the online publications
● Corresponding with institutions, private collectors, and auction houses as needed
● Compiling documentation and creating presentations for committee meetings
● Other duties as assigned

Desired skills:
● BA or in-progress MA in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or related field
● Prior experience working on catalogues raisonnés or cataloguing artworks is highly desirable
● Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work independently
● Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
● Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies
● Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace required
● Experience with digital and analog research, data entry, and copyediting
● Previous project management experience is a plus

This is a six-month part time contract position with possibility of renewal. The workload is expected to be approximately 60 hours per month, with a pay rate of $1,500 per month. As weekly hours may fluctuate, this is a good opportunity for someone with a flexible schedule. The work will be done remotely from the
Research Assistant’s home and in New York area libraries.
