Seasonal Part Time Visitor Services Associate

The Tenement Museum is currently seeking a part-time Visitor Services Associate to work Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays. The Visitor Services Associate’s primary role is to support museum visitors in our Visitor Center while maintaining the highest standards of customer service.  We expect potential Visitor Services Associates to have a strong work ethic, the ability to multitask, stamina to keep calm under pressure, and the ability to create a positive and engaging experience for our visitors. 

 

Visitor Services associates are responsible for the following:

  • Describing and selling guided tours to visitors
  • Facilitating all admissions to the museum
  • Reviewing COVID safety guidelines with visitors
  • Setting up and distributing assisted listening devices for visitors on tours.
  • Proactively greeting and engaging visitors in a dialogue about the museum
  • Credit card and cash handling 
  • Ask for donations for the museum
  • Selling Memberships and Gift Certificates
  • Managing visitor expectations
  • Line and crowd Management
  • Prioritizing tasks with an attention to detail while ensuring a customer-first focus
  • Maintaining the sales floor by straightening, organizing, cleaning, and restocking merchandise and brochures
  • Communicating with Education staff via walkie and responding to visitor needs on tours.
  • Being capable of standing for long periods.
  • Knowledge of POS or Altru ticketing a plus.

Qualifications

Some knowledge of visitor services and/or retail which is typically 6 months to 1 year of experience. The ideal candidate will be flexible, possesses excellent communication and problem-solving skills.  Must have the ability to quickly learn museum programs and policies with accuracy and finesse. Experience with crowd-management and coordinating large groups of people, including children, would be helpful. Must be warm and energetic with a professional manner and ability to be patient and calm when dealing with challenging customer service issues.  We are looking for a self-starter, who is able to work independently, and is looking to grow at the museum. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office. Experience with ALTRU ticketing systems is a plus. Cash handling experience also a plus.
