Spring 2021 Collection Management and Archive Internship (Remote) at the South Street Seaport Museum

This internship with the Seaport Museum allows you to become part of a small, dynamic team, participating in the daily work of the Collections Department, including collection stewardship, inventory, digitization, research, and administrative tasks. Projects relate to several areas including but not limited to drawings, prints and photographs; ocean liner ephemera and memorabilia; rare books; historical documents; architecture and printing history. Interns have the possibility to meet with other department heads, participate in meetings, assist in general Museum events, and are encouraged to have learning opportunities to develop professional skills and enlarge their museum’s industry networks at large. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain curatorial, collections, registration, and archives experiences, and be involved in the day-to-day operations of the Museum that tells the history of “Where New York Begins.”

The Seaport Museum strongly encourages applications from students who are members of groups underrepresented in careers related to museums, fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment with a staff as diverse as New York City and our audience.

This internship position is primarily for college credits. It is unpaid, but a stipend of $25/day is provided on a bi-weekly basis.

Application Deadline: Friday, January 15, 2021.
