EXECUTIVE AND DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT
Launching in 2021, New York Consolidated (NYC) is a new nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering a more equitable culture in the arts. NYC believes this work begins by deepening public knowledge of underrepresented artists, genres, and movements. By illuminating overlooked stories of the past and present, NYC will enhance appreciation for the critical role that diverse art and artists play in shaping a healthy society today, and help lead the field toward a more sustainable future.
NYC’s Founder and Board President (FBP) and the current General Manager (GM) of the project are now seeking to hire an Executive and Development Assistant (EDA) to assist in administration and development support in the lead up to the launch and ultimately to work with both the FBP and a new Executive Director (ED) to be hired towards the end of 2020.
BACKGROUND
NYC was founded by arts advocate Jane Hait, who now serves as President of the foundation’s Board of Directors (FBP).
NYC’s historic, 8,000-square foot venue and offices in the West Village will publicly open in fall of 2021 concurrent with the launch. The organization’s namesake is the former New York Consolidated Card Company, which erected the warehouse at 225 West 13th Street in 1909. Since the 1970s, the building has been a hub for visual artists, filmmakers, and musicians from many backgrounds. When 225 West 13th came to market in 2017, NYC’s FBP acquired the building with the goal of safeguarding its legacy as a cultural center by opening it to the public. In doing so, NYC would underscore artists’ essential and irreducible role in “consolidating”—by definition, strengthening—New York City as a whole.
THE POSITION
The Executive and Development Assistant will support the FBP, the GM and, ultimately the ED. They will be a key liaison between the FBP, the Board of Trustees, staff and external constituencies. This is an excellent opportunity for a person seeking to work in the shaping of a dynamic cultural nonprofit organization.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage written correspondence for NYC including digitizing and storing archives in NYC’s relationship management database.
- Schedule annual calendar of Board meetings and assist with governance including Board packets and materials, contact lists, minutes, meeting schedules and logistics.
- Maintain calendars, manage calls and arrange travel for NYC staff as requested.
- Assist with NYC events and meetings including special tours, site visits, cultivation events and NYC programs. Assistance will include tracking RSVPs and day-of logistics.
- Organize and maintain files and records for NYC.
- Prepare, edit and distribute all donor solicitation materials and acknowledgements.
- Prepare research reports and ongoing prospect research.
- Maintain an accurate contact database including a schedule of donor cultivations as agreed with NYC.
- Assist in gift processing, gift tracking and reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of grant proposals including gathering supplemental materials.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and/or two years of relevant experience.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Self-motivated with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to be resourceful and a creative problem solver.
- Experience with relationship management databases, gift tracking and donor cultivation moves management.

The EDA position is a full-time, exempt position. Work will begin remotely and, eventually, pending easing of COVID-19, become an on-site position at the organization’s Greenwich Village offices.
