The Historic House Trust – Curatorial Internship
SPRING 2020 INTERNSHIP
The Historic House Trust of NYC (HHT) is seeking a Curatorial Intern to assist in a special research project that will investigate women’s influential roles in the preservation and founding of HHT’s 23 historic house museums. This project, motivated by 2020’s celebration of the 100thanniversary of the 19th Amendment, seeks to discover and acknowledge the women who contributed to the preservation of New York City’s historic houses. The results of this project will support HHT’s ongoing initiative to tell the preservation stories of its houses and collections.
PROJECT DURATION: February 2020-April 2020
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Curatorial Intern will assist the Curator with the following: •Surveying the founding history of the organization’s 23 historic houses. Methods may include: oIn-person and virtual interviews oArchival research •Collecting primary resources regarding influential women at HHT houses •Writing detailed reports on each house’s foundation and preservation history •Develop plan to present and/or distribute research results
QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIAL SKILLS/AREAS OF INTEREST:•College, graduate, or postgraduate student in Art History, Museum Studies, or other related field •Interest in preservation, women’s history, and museum history •Strong research and writing skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude •Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment •Superior in-person and digital communication skills•Demonstrated experience in similar research projects a plus
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/COMMENTS: •Necessary to travel to sites across all five NYC boroughs via public transportation.
