Volunteering at The City Reliquary Museum
The City Reliquary Museum is looking for volunteers! We seek friendly individuals with a passion for New York City history and folklore who are committed to our mission of preserving New York’s quotidian past. The City Reliquary is the premier repository for local ephemera and everyday artifacts in New York City. The Reliquary provides a civic-minded community space for our immediate neighbors in Williamsburgh, Brooklyn, and for all who live in, visit, and love New York.
This opportunity is ideal for those looking for experience in museums or non-profits. Schedules are flexible, with most volunteers committing only 3 to 6 hours per month. All volunteers will undergo an organizational orientation and receive appropriate training for specialized tasks. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
The Reliquary looks to fill the following volunteer categories on a regular basis:
-Museum Docents/Front Desk: Duties include handling cash; entering payments into Square for admissions and gift shop sales; welcoming museum guests & answering their questions.
-Event Support: The City Reliquary hosts events year-round and needs volunteers for:
Admissions/Front Desk
Hospitality
A/V Support
Event Setup/Breakdown
Also, the following independent projects on a sporadic basis:
-Crafters: Decorating event spaces; gift shop product development/assembly; craft workshops
-Photographers: For documenting events and exhibitions; other in-house projects such as photo portraits of all Board, staff and vollies, and promotional shots of collection
-Installation Crew: Duties include painting walls, hanging pictures, and display building for exhibitions.
-Formal art handling experience helpful, but not required.
-Graphic Design: Possible projects include exhibition cards, promotional items, and gift shop merchandise.
-Interactive Display Design: For audio-visual museum displays. Familiarity with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc. helpful.
-Archiving/Cataloging: Ideal for Library Science majors. Projects include developing an archive for museum permanent collection.
-Carpenters/Woodworkers: Possible projects include building display cases, shelves, mounts.
-Web Development for WordPress: Updating or redesigning current museum website: www.cityreliquary.org
