Assistant Collections Manager at The Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts

The Assistant Collections Manager is primarily responsible for the preservation and care of the permanent collection of over 1,500 textile objects at the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts. This entry-level position assists with exhibition planning and installations for three exhibitions per year.

Location: Melbourne, FL

Starting Salary: $32,500

Duties:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the preservation and care of the permanent and education collection, including, registration, cataloging, storage and rehousing, conservation, restocking of archival materials and supplies, monitoring environmental conditions, housekeeping, and implementing Integrated Pest Management practices
  • Assisting in the installation, de-installation, and maintenance of gallery exhibits
  • Assisting with exhibition planning and coordination, including design and layout, object and display preparation, shipping, packing, purchasing installation supplies
  • Assisting with the production of all exhibition-related collateral, including, graphic design, production, and coordination with vendors
  • Assisting with exhibition and collection documentation, including loan agreements, deed of gifts, temporary custody forms, condition reports
  • Assisting with the implementation and review of collections policies, including, emergency preparedness plan, collections management policy
  • Working closely with volunteers, docents, interns, and other staff to implement tactics that serve the Center’s mission

Qualifications: Education/Skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Art History, or Art
  • Knowledge of art and design history, fine arts materials, and techniques
  • Understanding of and/or direct experience with professional museum standards of collections management practices and registration methods
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Past Perfect or other museum database software, Microsoft applications, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), as well as graphic design/publication layout knowledge
  • Experience with use of power tools

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb and work on ladders to a height of 20 feet
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds on a regular basis

Position requires valid driver’s license and ability to drive cargo vans and moving trucks
