Office of the Deputy Director Intern (P/T) at Brooklyn Museum, Fall 2019—Development
(Part-time, temporary, unpaid internship)
Working within the Office of the Deputy Director and Chief Development Officer, the intern provides essential support for our Individual Giving and Research & Operations teams. The Development department is responsible for fundraising and events, liaising with key stakeholders across all donor constituencies, and serving as the definitive link between Museum supporters, key community influencers, and our program and curatorial staff. Successful applicants have the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of development research, major gifts fundraising, and connecting with the Museum’s key supporters and influencers. The intern supports efforts to steward and cultivate members of our Board of Trustees and Advisors and our interest-based patron groups, including researching new prospects for exhibition support, interest-based patron groups, and major gift/capital campaign fundraising; organizing proposals for upcoming exhibitions; providing support during patron events, including curator-led tours and visits to artists’ studios; assisting with board travel and trip planning; and performing general administrative tasks including helping with donor mailings, invoices, acknowledgment letters, and appeals. Potential to work with other Development teams may also arise.
Ideal candidates will thrive in a role that directly supports programming and collections constituting one of the world’s greatest encyclopedic and artistic resources. Applicants should be detail-oriented and demonstrate dependability and a positive professional attitude. Ideal candidates will also be strong researchers and writers who demonstrate discretion, and who are experienced with Microsoft Office and Excel. Training on development databases and research systems will be provided over the course of the internship. All interns also participate in a weekly professional development program consisting of panel discussions, workshops, and site visits that connect daily tasks with the Museum as a whole. Compensation: This internship is unpaid; however, school credit may be earned. Start and end dates: September–December 2019 Work schedule: Flexible with work and/or academic schedule; 14–20 hours per week, with mandatory program attendance on Fridays, 12–1:30 pm.
