Summer Internship – VoCA Communications Intern – April 21

Position: VoCA Communications Intern

Duration: June – July 2017

Commitment: 10 – 15 hours, 2 – 3 days a week

Location: Bobst Library, 70 Washington Sq S #8SW, New York NY 10012

Internship description: The summer intern will assist the VoCA Executive Director and Program Manager on various projects ranging from programming to general office support, with a focus on communications and marketing. This internship poses a fantastic opportunity to someone looking for an introduction to the non-profit art scene, as well as to the dynamic and diverse group of arts professionals that comprise our network.

Requirements: An undergraduate or graduate student studying arts administration, visual arts, conservation, museum studies, communication or a related area. Interns must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and popular social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.). The ability to multi-task, work independently, and a sense of humor go a long way in our busy non-profit.

Responsibilities include:

  • A wide variety of administrative tasks, such as checking the mail, shredding papers, and picking up office supplies as needed
  • Augment and analyze VoCA’s social media feeds; assist in the creation and implementation of a VoCA Instagram account
  • Update VoCA’s mailing lists in Mailchimp
  • Give VoCA a presence on Wikipedia, both through the generation of a VoCA page and making sure there are references to VoCA on other artist, institutional, or affiliated pages
  • Press and promotional research
  • Assist in preparing and running VoCA’s summer events in NYC (Ex. the VoCA Journal launch in July)
  • Writing (at least) one post for the VoCA Blog during the course of the internship, to be brainstormed and developed on the topic of the intern’s choosing under the guidance of the program manager
