Director of Development at The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art

The ICAA:

The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) is a nonprofit membership organization with 15 chapters across the country committed to promoting and preserving the practice, understanding, and appreciation of classical design. To do so, the ICAA offers a broad range of educational programs. These include intensives for architecture and design students, introductory programs for middle school students, lectures and walking tours for the public, continuing education courses for professionals and enthusiasts, travel programs to visit classical masterpieces, the publishing of original and reprinted books, and an annual journal entitled the Classicist. Through the annual Arthur Ross Awards, as well as other national and regional award programs, the ICAA also honors contemporary leaders of classical design and the related fields.

The Position:

The Director of Development works alongside the President and Director of Operations to develop and execute a comprehensive development strategy for contributed income totaling nearly $2.5 million for annual operating, education, membership, special events, and special projects. The Director manages a portfolio of major donors and a team of 1 part time and 3 full time staff members, while overseeing fundraising efforts through travel programs, events, membership, and institutional giving.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage overall development strategy and budgets for all areas of
    development alongside the President and Director of Operations and Special
    Projects
  • Oversee, manage, and grow the President’s Council and other major gifts through
    cultivation and direct asks. This includes the creation and management of a calendar
    of special private events targeting this membership group.
  • Devise and implement new strategies to acquire, renew, and upgrade donors;
    increase partnerships; collaborate with other members of ICAA staff to maximize
    fundraising efforts for all programs and opportunities
  • Train, Supervise, and motivate a team of 1 part time and 3 full time staff members,
    overseeing and assisting with their work in the areas of:

    • Special Events and Public Programs
    • Grants and Sponsorships
    • Membership
    • Travel Programs 
  • Manage logistics and execution and maximize the effectiveness of fundraising and
    cultivation events including the Stanford White Awards, Annual McKim lecture, and
    other ad hoc events
  • Oversee the planning, logistics, and execution of the Arthur Ross Awards Gala while
    working alongside the Event Co-Chairs
  • Oversee strategy and implementation of at least two major direct mail and email
    appeals each year and report on results
  • Alongside Director of Operations, formulate annual development budgets, track
    financial performance, prepare necessary interim financial reports and fundraising
    projections
  • In concert with the Director of Operations, oversee, prepare, and staff Development
    Committee of the board and cultivate new potential Board members
  • Oversee management of Raiser’s Edge database, ensuring clean data and successful
    reporting through the system
  • Develop new fundraising programs, to potentially include Planned Giving, major
    gifts of $50,000 and above, and others
  • Other projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have at least five years of fundraising or related non-profit experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s degree in art history, arts administration, or
    commensurate subject preferred
  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized, with excellent oral and written
    communications skills
  • A high level of energy, initiative, and creativity is essential
  • Ability to interact professionally with trustees, members, donors, volunteers, and
    colleagues
  • Proficient in database management and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically
  • Demonstrate ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative; can work
    independently and as part of a team in support of the organization’s goals and
    mission
  • Must show exceptional attention to detail while managing multiple projects on tight
    deadlines
  • Interest in architecture, art, or design is a plus
