Museum Design Internship with The Long Now Foundation
The Long Now Foundation is a non-profit in San Francisco dedicated to fostering long-term thinking. We create and deliver ambitious programs like the 10,000 Year Clock, The Rosetta Project, PanLex, The Manual for Civilization, The Interval (an award-winning bar and cafe in Fort Mason Center), and two public speaking series, Seminars About Long-term Thinking, and Conversations at The Interval.
We are looking for a volunteer intern to help redesign and build out new museum design displays that explain our various projects to people who visit The Interval. This is a unique opportunity for a design student to create displays that will be seen by thousands of people per month.
We’re looking for someone with:
- Strong familiarity with photoshop and adobe design products
- Strong copywriting skills
- A strong sense of design and willingness to work within our design aesthetic
- Interest in The Long Now Foundation projects & long-term thinking
- An ability to distill and summarize complex information in creative ways
- An ability to take directions & feedback from team members and work independently
Nice to have:
- Experience working with fabrication tools (laser cutters, 3D printers)
This position is an unpaid part-time position (2-3 days a week in the office in San Francisco), we are open to the possibility of working with a school to have this position count as course credit on a case-by-case basis. The internship is designed to be over the summer, but we could change the amount of time and/or the time of the year for the right candidate. You will be working closely with senior members of the Long Now team. You will be able to drink delicious barista-prepared tea and coffee from The Interval all day long, be surrounded by some of the brightest and most future-forward thinkers in the Bay Area, and have the option to attend Conversations at The Interval and our Seminars About Long-term Thinking as well as other exciting events.
