ELAINE GOLDMAN AND JOHN BENIS PAID INTERNSHIP

The Elaine Goldman and John Benis Paid Internship at Aperture Foundation is intended to provide experience in working for a not-for-profit arts organization for college students from diverse backgrounds who live in or attend school in New York City.

For the Fall term (July – December), the Elaine Goldman and John Benis Diversity intern will work in the Development Department, focusing on special event production. Applicants for this position should be prepared to work an average of three days per week. The selected person will receive an additional cash stipend for a six-month term beginning in July. Applicants might be asked to work evening and weekend hours for occasional special events for additional compensation at an hourly rate. The application deadline is March 30.

The Development Department’s goal is to raise funds for the full range of Aperture Foundation’s activities, including but not limited to publications, exhibitions, public programs, collection-related projects, the magazine, and general operating support. The Elaine Goldman and John Benis Intern will help to coordinate and organize all aspects of special events. They will also assist Aperture staff by updating and maintaining the donation database, writing agendas for and attending weekly benefit meetings, taking meeting minutes and following up on action items, preparing correspondence and solicitation packages as well as other fundraising materials, and helping to track and maintain all incoming financial data and information related to the Aperture Gala and Auction.

What You Can Expect to Learn

Techniques and strategies used to attain development goals, both on fiscal and mission-driven levels; skills for creating successful development materials, sponsor decks, and acknowledgment letters; knowledge of the art world and philanthropy; special event planning and preparation skills; database and gift processing; and attend weekly Aperture’s departmental meetings.
