Internships
Working with a small staff in an open office environment, SculptureCenter interns take on projects that have a direct and visible outcome in our exhibitions, public programs, and events. They leave the program with a range of important professional skills for working in the field of contemporary art and hands on experience working in a non-profit art institution.
Lucky Draw Internship, Spring 2019, Applications closing soon
The Lucky Draw Intern works directly with both the Individual Giving and Events Manager and the Operations Manager to provide critical support for Lucky Draw, SculptureCenter’s second largest annual fundraising event. The Lucky Draw Intern will be involved in liaising with donating artists, logging incoming artwork donations, and preparing the online preview of donated artwork. Interns will be asked to assist in artwork collection, documentation, and the organization of materials related to the event’s run of show. Candidates interested in collection management or art handling practices are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have courteous and professional written communication, be highly detail oriented, and able to work independently. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, FileMaker, and photography or documentation experience preferred.
Marketing and Communications Internship, Spring 2019, Applications closing soon
The Marketing and Communications intern works directly with the Communications, Marketing, and Digital Media Manager. Responsibilities include supporting the promotion of the season’s exhibitions and events across email, social media, print, and digital campaigns. Interns also have the opportunity to assist with the content management of the SculptureCenter website and work with the limited edition program including preparation for seasonal art fairs.
Curatorial Internship, Summer 2019, Application Deadline: March 15, 2019
Summer Curatorial Interns work directly with SculptureCenter’s Director of Exhibitions and Programs, Curator, and other Curatorial Interns. The primary role of Summer Curatorial Interns is to undertake a large-scale project focused on emerging artists. In addition they assist SculptureCenter’s curatorial staff in the planning, organization, and development of current and forthcoming exhibitions, public programs, events, and publications. On a day-to-day basis, Summer Curatorial Interns work independently on longterm projects, assist with academic and production research, research/coordinate artwork production, assist with outreach for public and educational programs, and complete daily administrative duties and correspondence.
Summer Curatorial Internships begin in late May or early June 2019 and end in late August 2019. SculptureCenter’s internships are typically two days per week, 10:30am to 6pm. Weekly schedule to be coordinated with successful candidates.
Professional Skills and Experience
B.A. in art history, studio art, or a related field (completed or in progress, or comparable coursework or exeperience) preferred. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated familiarity and interest in emerging contemporary art, professional written and oral communication, excellent organization, and online research skills as well as basic familiarity with creative software, such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. Applicants should be highly organized with great attention to detail and have the ability to prioritize between short-term tasks and longterm projects. Prior museum or gallery experience preferred, but not required. Interns provide day-to-day support for museum staff, including administrative duties and correspondence, and assist with event and program staffing.
Hours and Compensation
Weeks and hourly scheduling is flexible with an expected commitment of two days per week. Internships are unpaid but school credit may be earned. We regularly host international interns with strong language skills.
