Full Time Curator of Education Position Available
The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts (METC) is a New Jersey history museum located in Madison NJ. We are seeking an experienced Curator of Education to join our Education Department as a full-time staff member with an immediate start date. Our public mission is realized through numerous educational and interactive programs tailored to students in grades K to 12, as well as senior and adult programs. We offer a variety of hands-on and engaging programs, exploring aspects of New Jersey history, with a focus on the late 18th through mid-19th centuries. Our education programs align with the NJ Student Learning Standards, and we have expanded our
offerings to include programs on civics literacy, immigration, women, and minority rights as well as STEM/STEAM initiatives.

The Curator of Education will manage the education department including staff, interns, and volunteers. They are responsible for developing and delivering museum programming utilizing creative learning strategies that engage diverse audiences of students, families, people living with disabilities and older adults. They will be the lead educator for the museum and the liaison with the region’s education community, ensuring curriculum relevance for all programs and exhibits.

Additional responsibilities include securing partial funding for programming by identifying and developing grant opportunities and networking with colleagues, school administrators and teachers.

This is a leadership position which includes hands-on education, curriculum development, staff management, grant writing, departmental budgeting, and development of didactic materials. The ideal candidate will have exceptional writing and communication skills, extensive knowledge of museum pedagogy and interpretation and possess sound judgment. A collaborative management
style and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with the museum’s small staff and representatives of the community and other organizations is essential.

Minimum Education and Requirements:
• Master’s degree in museum studies, history, education, or a closely related field
preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience at a museum or historic site that includes program development and a proven track record of increased leadership responsibility.
• Minimum of 2-4 years of supervisory experience, including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating staff, educators, or volunteers.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams, set priorities, delegate responsibilities, and manage multiple projects/programs simultaneously.
• Experience in strategic planning and program development, aligning departmental goals with institutional priorities.
• Proven experience managing budgets and resources, including developing and tracking departmental or project budgets.
• Strong background in partnership management, working with schools, community
organizations, and cultural partners.
• Experience with grant research and writing.
• Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends as required by the education
department and museum’s schedules
• A current driver’s license and access to a vehicle with ability to travel to various
locations on occasion.

Salary range:
$52,000-55,000 based on experience plus benefits package
