BOMB’s Oral History Project (OHP) is dedicated to collecting, documenting, and preserving the stories of distinguished visual artists of the African Diaspora. Beginning in 2021, OHP focus cities were expanded to include New Orleans, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia. The project seeks an Oral History Assistant to aid in completing several procedural and editorial tasks.
The ideal candidate has training in oral history methodology and practice, knowledge of contemporary visual arts with a degree in Art History, American Studies, Black Studies, or Literature and is attentive to detail, researching the contemporary art landscape, and able to do preliminary fact-checking.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assisting with editorial demands including transcribing, fact-checking, and proofreading
- Providing support, as needed, for Project Director including maintaining the project’s production map
- Scheduling, facilitating, and ensuring recordings of online and in-person meetings for participants
- Performing contemporary art and regional background research, as requested by OHP team
- Updating and maintaining the project’s contact list
- Contacting artists’ studios and representation/galleries for images, and procuring those images
- Formatting captions
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience working on oral history projects
- Prior editorial experience
- Zoom meeting scheduling and recording
- Proficiency with Google Docs (especially Calendar and Sheets)
- Ability to perform contemporary art and regional cultural heritage research
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with oral history methods and knowledge of ethics in the field
Experience with or willingness to learn Craft CMS, HTML, Adobe Suite
