POSITION DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Children’s Museum seeks part-time Educators to facilitate dynamic and engaging interdisciplinary school programs for K-5th grade. This is a highly collaborative position that requires effective and dynamic programmatic
facilitation, teamwork, and a flexible and adaptable education approach. Successful candidates will demonstrate an enthusiasm for interdisciplinary subject matters such as Art, Sciences and History as well as core pedagogical understanding of object-based injury and socio-emotional learning methods. Ideal candidates will be creative thinkers and problem solvers; strong verbal and written communicators; and dynamic education team members. Ability to work with diverse audiences and willingness to interact with the children, teachers and the public are essential. BCM seeks

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Facilitate BCM’s School Programs utilizing Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s collection and live animals. Activities include facilitation of school programs; making activities; and collaboratively workshopping curriculum and educational materials.
• Participate in the Education Department as an active member to assess and plan for audience needs including program differentiation, evaluation, and post-program feedback.
• Setting up and breaking down of programs; cleaning of the space as needed.
• Submit program evaluations as needed.
• Participate in relevant professional activities to maintain an awareness of current practices and issues in art, science and museum education fields.
• Maintain a strong commitment to holistic education, which involves welcoming, encouraging, and engaging with youth of all types.
• Attend museum meetings, trainings and other professional development opportunities.
• Support other Education Department and Museum-wide responsibilities as needed.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
• B.A. in Education, Museum Studies, Science Education, Child Development, Art Education or related field.
• One to three years of experience in education or museum education setting.
• Experience working with children ages 0 – 10 and their caregivers with patience and understanding.
• Exemplary verbal and written communication.
• Interest or experience in object/inquiry-based learning preferred.
• Interest or experience in handling and teaching with a living collection.
• Experience developing and delivering interdisciplinary and multicultural programs for learners of diverse backgrounds.
• Experience writing lesson plans and conducting research and evaluations preferred.
• Ability and desire to interact with youth and families; familiarity and passion for working with children of all abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
• Warmth, positive energy, and a sincere love of working with youth and their families.
• Knowledge of Brooklyn a plus.
• Proficient with Macs, PCs, Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and Dropbox

SCHEDULE
Up to 28 hours a week depending on program needs. Availability on at least 2 or more weekdays, Tuesday through Friday
starting at 9:00am-1:00pm.

SALARY & BENEFITS
$21/hour, paid every two weeks + additional opportunities for commissioned projects.
