Job Title: Teaching Artist and LGBTQIA+ Facilitators

Job Status: Freelance/Contract

Location: Bronx, NY

Salary: $100 to $150 (Hourly)


Open Call for Teaching Artist Roster and LGBTQIA+ Facilitators

We are seeking experienced teaching artists to work in Bronx area K-12 schools and senior centers. Opportunities include:

• Artist Residencies for Multi Language Learners and Students with Disabilities.

  • Artist Residencies for LGBTQIA+ high school students to provide a safe space for students to explore their identities as they learn about art and artists from the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • Artist residencies in Senior Centers
  • Afterschool Artist Residencies in K-12 Schools

Teaching artists develop and lead multi-session visual arts partnerships. Teaching artists integrate their artistic practice into the arts residency curriculum. 

Responsibilities 

• Lead multi-session art-making residencies in schools and or senior centers

• Develop thematic visual arts curriculum and supporting lesson plans that integrate gallery exhibitions and school curriculum

• Familiarity with Blueprint for the Arts and National Blueprints for the Arts Standards. 

• Compile lists of necessary art-making materials

• Document residency through photos, videos, and attendance

Qualifications 
BA or BFA in Studio Art required MFA or MA preferred, in Fine Arts, Museum Education, Art History, Education, Architecture, or related fields

Requirements 

  • Experience as a teaching artist or arts educator with K-12 Students, and or Seniors
  • Experience teaching in public school settings
  • Experience designing lesson plans and/ or visual arts curriculum
  • Ongoing personal visual arts practice

Expertise and experience teaching K-12 Students and/or Seniors in one or more of the following:

•      Painted Murals

•      Mosaic Murals

•      Painting

•      Drawing

•      Collage

•      Digital Media – Stop motion animation

•      Sculpture

•      Ceramics – kiln and non-kiln work

•      Fiber Arts – embroidery, crochet, and more

Experience teaching students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and LGBTQIA+ youth is a plus.

Facilitators for LGBTQIA+ Artist Residencies
We are also seeking experienced facilitators for LGBTQIA+ Artist Residencies with direct experience working with high school students (grades 9-12). These residencies will be focused on fostering empowerment and promoting understanding of identity, pronouns, sexual orientation, and gender. Providing ongoing support to both program participants and teaching artists.

Responsibilities 

  • Create a safe supportive atmosphere for LGBTQIA+ high school students
  • Provide education on topics of sexuality and gender as it relates to identity development of high school students
  • Address how the intersections of class, race, sexuality, gender, age, and ability impact the experiences of students in high school
  • Provide support to students and teaching artist

Qualifications 

BA or MA (preferred), in social work, education, counseling or related areas.

Requirements 

  • Experience as a facilitator for LGBTQIA+ youth
  • Experience teaching in public school settings
  • Possess knowledge of sexuality and gender as it relates to identity development
  • Knowledge of how the intersections of class, race, sexuality, gender, age, and ability impact the experiences of students in high school
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment with teaching artists
  • Flexibility to adapt programs as needed
