About us:

The Zoological Association of America (ZAA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to responsible wildlife management, conservation, and education. We currently accredit more than 70 zoos, aquariums, and preserves across North America and fund dozens of conservation projects around the world.

Position:

The Events Coordinator position is a part-time, fully remote salaried position with travel (i.e., attending ZAA conferences/meetings). The position directly reports to the ZAA Executive Director. The main responsibility of this position is to coordinate and support ZAA conferences, workshops, seminars, events, and fundraising.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of conferences, workshops, seminars, and events, including being the point-person responsible during all events
  • Review and negotiate all contracts related to conference(s)
  • Work with PR/Marketing and Conference Committees and Communications Coordinator to promote conferences
  • Work within dedicated budgets and revenue targets
  • Recommend additional ways to increase attendance, networking, and fundraising
  • Prepare conference reports for Executive Director and Board

Requirements and Expectations:

  • Impeccable time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with a wide range of personalities
  • Ability to handle last-minute changes and other stressful situations professionally
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least two years of experience planning/coordinating events for more than 300 participants
  • Experience with graphic design and social media promotion
  • Ability to travel up to fifteen days per year for events
  • Ability to work fully remotely 15-20 hours/week during non-event weeks and in-person up to 80 hours during event weeks
  • Although the position is fully remote apart from travelling for events, you will be expected to work/be available online at least 3 days/week during regular business hours
  • Access to secure high-speed internet
  • Experience in the zoological industry preferred
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations preferred
