Description
The Grey Art Museum, NYU’s fine arts museum, seeks a graduate student for a position that will work with staff to execute an installation of Robert Rauschenberg’s prints and photos from the NYU Art Collection in conjunction with the upcoming Rauschenberg centennial in 2025. The installation will be mounted in the Grey’s entrance hall gallery and will open on September 5, 2025. This is a part-time position that will require weekly work during the spring 2025 semester, consistent work over the summer (with some flexibility for travel and other commitments), as well as some selected dates and times in September and potentially October.

The installation will explore and specify Rauschenberg’s work as global collaborator—echoing the emphasis placed on interdisciplinary and international partnerships at NYU, a global research university. Through the lens of printmaking, an inherently collaborative medium, it will examine each artwork as a product of local and international relationships (whether print shops, non-profit and other institutions, or individuals) and explore Rauschenberg’s institutional efforts to promote cross-cultural exchange through creative production.

Responsibilities:
The Rauschenberg Curatorial Intern’s major duties include conducting curatorial research on all the Collection’s holdings of works by Rauschenberg across multiple decades (some 35 objects); creating an installation proposal of Rauschenberg prints and photos in consultation with members of the Grey’s staff; writing interpretive, educational texts and object labels for the installation; helping to execute the installation; presenting the installation to students and other university and public groups; and shaping and assisting with a public program that draws on the themes of the installation and includes the work of emerging scholars.

Qualifications:
Graduate students enrolled in a master’s or doctoral art history program at NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts. Applicants must specialize in postwar American art and have demonstrable curatorial experience in a museum or gallery setting. Must have excellent writing and organizational skills.

Details:
The Grey Art Museum, New York University, is located at 18 Cooper Square, New York, NY 10003.
