JOB SUMMARY

The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art is seeking a Communications Manager to join our team. This is a full time position working from the Museum’s office including some nights and weekends for public programs and fundraising events. This position works across all departments of the Museum and reports to the Director of External Affairs. The Communications Manager will be an excellent writer with experience in creating a wide variety of communication assets that thoughtfully engage, mobilize, and grow our audience. This position includes developing strategy, writing of original content, design, and managing timelines and their implementation. The Communications Manager will be a marketing and communications professional committed to creatively promoting the Museum’s work, brand, and mission with strong experience in the digital and social media realms. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

● Work cross-departmentally to gather information on the Museum’s many

initiatives for promotion on our digital channels

● Ongoing monitoring and moderating of the Museum’s social media accounts

● Timely preparation and execution of monthly communications calendar

● Create assets for external communications to be used across all digital platforms

including newsletters and Instagram. This includes drafting of content, visual

design, and implementation using Canva or other design software

● Track, interpret, and report key metrics and analytics for all digital initiatives

● Attend Museum public events to create content for social media

● Consult with executive management to develop effective communication

procedures and policies for a wide variety of situations as needed

● Work with the Museum’s PR team as needed in the creation of press materials

● Make periodic content updates to the Museum’s website

● Additional duties as assigned

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS

● Minimum of 3 years experience needed in a similar communications role

● Passion for writing and storytelling coupled with demonstrated knowledge of best

practices for social and digital media marketing and communications

● Knowledge of and investment in queer art and queer community with a keen

ability to keep up to date on current conversations and issues

● Strong project management skills, including time management, goal-setting,

multitasking and prioritization with excellent follow through

● Demonstrated experience with Instagram, Canva / InDesign, Mailchimp, and the

Google Suite of programs

● Good data analysis, problem-solving and critical thinking skills

● Thoughtful and professional understanding of crisis management

● Ability to effectively engage with team members of all levels and across

departments

Just weeks before the 1969 Stonewall uprisings, our founders Charles Leslie and Fritz Lohman held a first-of-its-kind exhibition of gay artists in their SoHo loft. The Museum grew from this early commitment to queer art and artists. Through over fifty years of exhibitions, programming, and collecting, we have fore-fronted the interrelationship of art and social justice for LGBTQIA+ communities in New York City and beyond.
