About the Education Department:

The Met’s Department of Education—dedicated to making art meaningful and accessible for everyone— is central to the mission of the Museum. The Department is a national and international leader in museum-based education and public programming, pushing boundaries through continuous innovation and experimentation. GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

As the Program Coordinator, you will support the Creative Practice team in the planning and coordinating of art making experiences for adult and intergenerational audiences. You will oversee the administrative workflow for Creative Practice activities and monitor the implementation of programs and events, including on-site and off-site studio workshops, drop-in art making experiences, and The Met’s Copyist program, to ensure that they are delivered on schedule and function smoothly. You serve as a liaison between artists, Education stakeholders, and others across the Museum.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Provide administrative support for the Creative Practice team including scheduling meetings, drafting agendas, and ordering office supplies.
  • Coordinate program logistics including travel and hotel accommodations for external programming partners, ordering program supplies, submitting room reservations, and building online event listings and registrations.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for external speakers and artists, contract educators, studio assistants, and vendors as well as internal contacts including Special Events, Procurement, Shipping and Receiving, and Technology Services.
  • Submit requisitions, process invoices and agreements, and maintain accurate and complete records for independent contractors.
  • Track program attendance, compile participant intake information, and organize pre and post program assessments.
  • Track expenses related to program materials, professional services, equipment, and honoraria.
  • Attend offsite meetings and studio visits, and assist with the delivery of offsite workshops, classes, and festivals.
  • Monitor and maintain art material storage area.
  • Assist other Education teams as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in studio art, museum studies, or a relevant discipline
  • 2-3 years of administrative experience in a museum or non-profit setting
  • Ability to write succinctly and organize information in a clear, logical sequence
  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, remain flexible, problem-solve, take initiative, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required for working with staff and the public
  • Ability to work weekend and/or evening hours to align with program offerings
  • Budget management and analytical skills
  • Full command of the Microsoft Office Suite and solid computer skills
  • Experience working with and maintaining databases and spreadsheets utilizing complex systems

COMPENSATION RANGE:

  • Pay Range: $33.00 – $34.00 / Hourly
  • The advertised pay scale reflects the good faith minimum and maximum salary range for this role. The advertised pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage for any specific employee. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.

Location Requirements

At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
