Programs offered by the department range from artist-driven activations to classes, online courses, studio programs, facilitated gallery explorations, workshops, publications and more.

 

Position summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Young Learners, the Assistant Educator, Teen Programs at MoMA informs the vision and scope of experiences for youth ages 14-19. These programs strive to welcome youth as an integral part of the MoMA community, connecting them to modern and contemporary art while fostering skills for collegiate, professional, artistic, and social-emotional growth. Teen programs utilize diverse strategies to engage participants in visual art, design, film, and museums. They include hands-on artmaking, workshops with contemporary artists, career development opportunities, exclusive gallery tours, and teen-led events. All programs aim to empower teens, build self-confidence, and enhance creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and cultural awareness. The Assistant Educator, Teen Programs sits within the Young Learners division within MoMA’s Learning and Engagement Department.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provides coordination and administration for programs, including planning, budget tracking, outreach, social media, communication and correspondence with participants, artist contracts and vendor management, travel, hospitality, and event logistics.
  • Monitors program budget in conjunction with Director, Young Learners and Department Manager.
  • Contributes to the strategic planning of current and future teen programs in alignment with the Young Learners vision and mission.
  • Liaises between departments to advance program production, marketing, and promotional needs where appropriate.
  • Manages and organizes supplies and other needs for all teen events.
  • Provides onsite support and facilitation during programs, including some weekends and evenings.
  • Maintains programming communication with the public via email and phone.
  • Organizes program marketing emails and social media, coordinating with editorial, membership, and other communications colleagues.
  • Liaises with curatorial departments to gather information about exhibitions and curatorial programs to inform program development.
  • Contributes to the development of new and existing relationships with cultural partners and artists.
  • Participates in the research and development of new programs, events and initiatives for teens.
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.    

 

Requirements:                    

  • One to two years of relevant experience in public program production and/or project management for teen-based programs in a museum or similar environment.
  • One to two years in arts administration, teaching youth, and/or community engagement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (youth development, fine arts, art education, arts administration, museum education, or related degree) or equivalent experience.
  • Solid understanding of art practices, techniques, aesthetics, and various art materials and mediums.
  • Ability to multitask and manage ongoing project deadlines.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to succeed in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Exceptional time-management and organizational skills.
  • Proactive communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience teaching groups, leading tours, and public speaking.
  • Capable of strategic thinking and collaborating with others to achieve shared goals.
  • Strong program management skills.
  • Effective and collaborative team player.
  • Proactive, with the ability to use independent judgment and initiative.
  • Experience coordinating events.
  • Strong computer skills (Windows, Mac OS X, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite) and proficiency in digital imaging (capture, scan, print).
  • Bilingual in Spanish (preferred).
  • Flexibility to work some weekends and evenings.

 

Physical Demands:

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand for long periods of time.
  • The employee is required to work in a public environment with face-to-face contact with the public.

Reports to:    Director, Young Learners

Salary: The salary for this position is $65,219 per annum.
