The Museum’s Education department is seeking full-time Managers of School Groups, Residencies and Teacher Learning.
The Manager of School Groups, Residencies and Teacher Learning will work with the Assistant Director of Professional Learning to develop culturally responsive, standards-based curricula for, and teach, Gottesman programs. Gottesman programs include teacher professional learning workshops, school visits, facilitated school visits and residency classes. These programs are focused on improving pedagogical practice, including civics, developing a deep understanding of the K-12 NYS Social Studies Framework, cultural representation, Indigenous studies and appropriate educational content, while integrating an understanding of Museum halls, exhibits and resources. The Manager will also support other teacher professional learning work, resource development and school group visits in the Gottesman Center, and as such may be required to work during evenings and weekends.
Job duties include:
Teaching/facilitating:
- Facilitate Gottesman Center teacher professional learning, residency experiences and school field trip experie
- nces.Lead participating teachers.
Curriculum development/management:
- Lead efforts with Gottesman leadership and Museum scientists to mutually design and facilitate teacher learning experiences.
- Supervise the development of tools, skills and strategies for instruction about social studies, anthropology, cultural representation, Indigenous studies and other related subjects using Museum resources to address relevant national, state and city standards and curriculum.
- Maintain curriculum development timelines.
- Develope project-based and place-based learning experiences within an educative curriculum.
- Stay up-to-date on strategies needed to best use Museum resources, including exhibitions, curriculum, collections and technology to support student learning.
Other Gottesman support:
- Contribute to the Center’s professional learning calendar.
- Co-lead facilitated school group experiences.
- Plan, develop and implement professional learning opportunities.
- Support Gottesman professional learning events.
- Participate in department/team meetings.
The expected salary range for the Manager of School Groups, Residencies and Teacher Learning is $65,000/annual – $72,000/annual. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science, social studies, anthropology, Indigenous studies or another r elated field.3 years formal or informal teaching experience at the elementary or secondary level.
- 3 years experience developing curriculum for elementary/secondary school students.
- Proven experience aligning curriculum and instruction to relevant state and city-wide standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of current trends in curriculum, teaching methods and strategies, professional development, adult learning theory, planning/project management and coordination/facilitation of work groups.
- Experience working with teachers/teacher leaders in a formal or informal setting.
- Strong understanding of instructional technology supports and tools.
- Strong understanding of culturally responsive pedagogy.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
- Positioning/change of positioning: Must be able to frequently position oneself/body to accomplish job duties.
