New York City Children’s Theater seeks a part time Education Administrator to start June 3rd, 2024. This individual will be a crucial member of an innovative education department that uses theater and music to inspire and educate children in grades Pre-K-5th. Our programs, facilitated by a roster of over 35 talented Teaching Artists, serve an average of 60 elementary schools, community centers, and homeless shelters throughout New York City’s five boroughs. Current programs include an inclusive theater and music residency program, a bilingual, Spanish and English, multi-sensory touring musical designed for students with disabilities and the very young, theater and music programs correlating to our professional theater productions, and two interactive anti-bullying theater workshops.

The Education Administrator will provide administrative support to the Education Department. The Education Administrator reports directly to the Director of Education and assists in managing a roster of 35 part-time teaching artists. The ideal candidate is an experienced and passionate arts administrator.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Administrative:

● Assist in planning and maintaining detailed program schedules for residencies and workshops in approx. 50 schools, community centers, and homeless shelters per year

● Create and maintain important education documents (i.e. stock language explaining education programs, letters to new schools, sample program breakdowns, invoice documents)

● Upkeep of education residency calendars and corresponding paperwork for schools and community partners

● Review and Support Teaching Artists’ curriculum and lesson plans

● Provide support (on an as-needed basis) at mainstage shows and public programs

● Fields inquiries about partnerships via phone or by email

● Assist in assessment and grant writing duties with Director of Education and Development team

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theater or Related Field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience in arts administration
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to be flexible
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a collaborative environment
  • Commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility
  • Experience using PC based Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel,
  • PowerPoint)
  • Experience using G-suite
  • Experience using Dropbox
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, occasional nights and weekends required

Preferred but not required:

  • Experience in 2-3 years in administrative support of arts education or related programming
  • Experience as a Teaching Artist in educational settings (elementary school preferred) and non-traditional settings with diverse groups of young people
  •  Experience in curriculum development
  •  Experience working within the NYC Department of Education System
  •  Experience working with students with disabilities
  •  Bilingual
