The Gallery Senior Research Associate is a crucial position that handles research and writing for exhibitions and programming related to the Japan Society Gallery. The Gallery Senior Research Associate will be responsible for research and writing related to the development and execution of exhibitions and accompanying publications. This includes researching checklists, writing essays, labels, and captions for exhibitions and exhibition catalogues. Research and writing of grant and funding proposals will be an important responsibility. The role requires writing press materials and processing administrative forms related to exhibitions and programming. The Gallery Research Associate is expected to have strong spoken and written communication skills in English and Japanese.
The position requires coordinating with the key players both inside and outside the Japan Society. Within the institution the position requires active teamwork and on-going coordination with the Senior Gallery Director, Guest Curator, Exhibition Manager, and Exhibition Associate on various aspects of the exhibition and programming cycle including: grant writing, loan agreements, shipping logistics, registral input, scheduling, and gallery tours. Externally the position requires research and dialogue with artists, collectors and curators.
Responsibilities

-research, write and manage exhibition checklists
-research and write exhibition didactics, labels, captions, etc.
-research, write, and edit exhibition publications
-research image copyrights
-research and contribute to gallery programming
-write and process gallery calendar forms related to exhibitions and programming
-research and communicate with artists, collectors
-give gallery tours
-research and maintain registral data base
-assist with coordination of shipping and courier arrangements
-work with gallery interns
