The Development department is seeking a full-time Development Associate, Principal Gifts. Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, the Associate is responsible for supporting the Development team’s high-level fundraising efforts, including work with the Board of Trustees, and providing organizational and administrative assistance to the Chief Development Officer.
This is an opportunity for a detail-oriented, self-starter with exceptionally strong writing and organizational skills to be an important part of a very busy Museum fundraising program. The successful applicant will experience up close the operations of a prominent cultural institution, as well as enjoy a behind-the-scenes view of the Museum’s extraordinary scientific collections and leading research and education programs.
Job duties include:
- Provide general administrative and organizational support to the Chief Development Officer (i.e., scheduling and calendar management, copying, filing).
- Draft, revise and track effective acknowledgment letters, proposals, visit briefings, presentations, reports, pledge agreements and other Trustee and donor correspondence from Museum leadership.
- Help to plan and complete various cultivation and stewardship activities, including an active schedule of donor meetings and site visits, as well as the production of donor gifts.
- Support the coordination of the annual Chairman’s Appeal program, which raises operating support from the Museum’s Board of Trustees, including helping to plan and coordinate the annual Chairman’s Circle Dinner.
- Maintain current and accurate donor records in Raiser’s Edge (SQL CRM database).
- Process, track and report on Trustee and principal donor giving, primarily using Raiser’s Edge.
- Coordinate and collaborate with colleagues across the Museum, including fellow Institutional Advancement staff, scientists, educators, exhibition specialists, volunteers and others to support work with Trustees and principal gifts donors.
- Provide back-office support as needed.
- Occasionally staff off-hours onsite events.
The expected salary range for the Development Associate, Principal Gifts is $43,000/annual – $48,000/annual. This position is overtime-eligible and the AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of professional experience OR High School Diploma or the equivalent and 4 years of professional experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Keynote.
- Advanced writing, editing and proofreading skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Non-profit development experience.
- Experience using Raiser’s Edge or other CRM.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
