The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM), one of the largest and most dynamic art museums in the nation, is seeking a Registrar for Exhibitions. For over 220 years, PEM has been an anchor in the community, serving as a gathering place where anyone can learn, derive inspiration, and gain a deeper appreciation for shared human experiences from around the globe and through time. The Museum’s collection of art, architecture and culture includes more than 850,000 objects, 23 historic structures and more than 350,000 books and over a linear mile of manuscripts.
Reporting to the Head Registrar, the full-time Registrar for Exhibitions is responsible for overseeing registration activities related to incoming changing exhibitions, incoming loans for PEM-organized exhibitions, including exhibitions traveling to other venues. This position supervises an associate exhibition registrar and an assistant exhibition registrar while being responsible for implementation and management of all registration aspects of changing and traveling exhibitions from the planning phase through implementation. The position works closely with other registrars and PEM departments including Curatorial, Collection Services, Exhibition Planning, as well as lenders and colleagues at other institutions. This position also serves on or leads teams related to collection-based projects as assigned.
A B.A. in art, art history or museum studies or closely related fields required. At least 7 years of experience in registration at an art museum along with 3 years of experience in changing and traveling exhibition management is preferred.
