Description

The Historic House Trust (HHT) is a nonprofit organization that works in partnership with New York City Department of Parks & Recreation (NYC Parks) to advocate for, promote, and provide expertise to preserve 23 publicly owned historic sites located throughout the city’s five boroughs. These sites are operated as museums by independent nonprofit partners.

HHT is seeking a Public Engagement Intern Development Director to join the small, collaborative team to help achieve outreach goals. The position is based full-time in-person out of the HHT office at the Olmsted Center in Flushing, Queens and includes site visits to partner historic houses across New York City as well as attendance
at related events during some evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities
Event Planning:
➢ Support Development Coordinator in identifying stakeholder groups to further engage.
➢ Pitch, plan, and implement engagement events with relevant partners toward the goals of increasing fundraising, increasing engagement, or fostering new community partnerships.
Outreach:
➢ Identify new partnership opportunities across related NYC organizations.
➢ Plan and manage tabling at an event or festival in an NYC Park.
➢ Work with HHT’s graphic designer to finalize print informational materials and develop digital materials to accompany these new assets.
➢ Manage efforts to improve accessibility across HHT’s platforms.

Internship Goals
➢ Launch a partnership effort with at least one new HHT collaborator.
➢ Plan and implement one new engagement event for a select stakeholder group.
➢ Pitch two additional engagement events for future implementation.
➢ Run the table at one public event in an NYC Park.
➢ Develop multilingual materials for at least one printed informational asset.
➢ Develop one tool to improve accessibility on HHT’s website.

Qualifications

➢ College, graduate, or postgraduate student in Museum Studies, History, or other related field
➢ Interest in community engagement
➢ Strong research and writing skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude
➢ Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment
➢ Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in person, on the phone, and via email
➢ Superior in-person and digital communication skills
HHT’s office is located in a one-story building with wheelchair accessible entrances and free parking.
