Description
The Historic House Trust (HHT) is a nonprofit organization that works in partnership with New York City Department of Parks & Recreation (NYC Parks) to advocate for, promote, and provide expertise to preserve 23 publicly owned historic sites located throughout the city’s five boroughs. These sites are operated as museums by independent nonprofit partners.
HHT is seeking a Communications & Digital Marketing Intern Development Director to join the small, collaborative team to help achieve outreach goals. The position is based full-time in-person out of the HHT office at the Olmsted Center in Flushing, Queens and includes site visits to partner historic houses across New York City as well as attendance at related events during some evening and weekend hours.
Responsibilities
➢ Press & Media Relations:
➢ Develop a press list of editors, writers, and other media personnel across NYC
➢ Research, develop, and pitch story ideas and other placements to local/national
print/electronic media
➢ Write press releases and pitch letters for final review by the Deputy Director
➢ Social Media & Digital Marketing
➢ Work with the Development Coordinator to recommend content and structural updates to the HHT website, and create a plan to develop new material and features
➢ Attend and document industry events (symposia, partner programs, galas, etc.) to use in future promotional materials
➢ Draft social media and email materials (images and caption copy) for review by the Deputy Director
➢ Respond appropriately and promptly to social media messages and inquiries
➢ Help develop a social media plan for next season in collaboration with the Deputy Director and house partners based on research and best practices in marketing & communications
Internship Goals
➢ Develop strong relationships with two new publications who are interested in collaborating.
➢ Create a comprehensive list of at least 50 press contacts for future use.
➢ Publish three pieces on web or print press platforms.
➢ Draft three press releases to be released during internship.
➢ Create two e-blasts via Constant Contact to be sent to all HHT subscribers.
➢ Develop, implement, and launch one new multi-media feature on the HHT website.
➢ Create one social media post per week.
➢ Draft a social media plan for fall 2024.
Qualifications
➢ College, graduate, or postgraduate student in Museum Studies, Communications, or other related field
➢ Interest in preservation, architecture, and history
➢ Strong research and writing skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude
➢ Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment
➢ Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies
➢ Superior in-person and digital communication skills
➢ Demonstrated experience in marketing and outreach a plus
