Sr. Development Coordinator, Principal Gifts
The American Museum of Natural History is seeking a Sr. Development Coordinator, Principal Gifts. They report directly to the Chief Development Officer and supports the Chief Development Officer in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding Trustees and other principal gifts donors and prospects, helping to deepen donor engagement in the life of the Museum and facilitate new and increased gifts. This position specifically supports the development and execution of an annual, high-touch personalized program for individual donors, potentially including meetings and visits with Museum leadership, scientists, educators and exhibition specialists; formal/informal written correspondence; event invitations; gifts and more. The Sr. Development Coordinator will immerse themself in the work of the Museum and its funder community, and partner with colleagues across the institution to identify and carry out unique opportunities for donor engagement.
This is an opportunity for a creative and highly organized problem solver, with a meticulous attention to detail and extraordinary writing and interpersonal skills, to be an important part of a very busy Museum fundraising program. This role requires a strong work ethic, excellent judgment and discretion and the ability to balance and prioritize multiple, often-shifting projects at once. Additionally, the ability to effectively work with individuals at every level of an organization, both internally and externally, is necessary.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work with the Chief Development Officer and colleagues around the Museum to develop an annual, personalized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plan for individual donors, managed by the Chief Development Officer.
- Build personal understanding of the Museum’s science, education and exhibition enterprise, as well as its donor community, in order to best match opportunities with funders and continually surface new avenues for engagement.
- Support the execution of each individual donor cultivation/stewardship plan, working with internal colleagues and external partners on tasks including:
- Plan meetings and visits (including scheduling and logistics, as well as drafting briefings);
- Draft, revise, edit and track effective correspondence and other personalized communications from the Chief Development Officer and Museum leadership (including emails, letters, briefings and presentations);
- Produce mass mailings (including of annual reports, membership cards, holiday cards, etc.); and
- Identify and secure gifts (including for birthdays, as thank-yous, etc.).
- Support the solicitation of Trustees/other donors through the creation of both formal and informal written communications.
- Maintain current and accurate donor records in Raiser’s Edge (SQL CRM database).
- Keep up to date on current philanthropic trends, data and other philanthropy-focused information.
- Coordinate and collaborate with Museum colleagues, including fellow Institutional Advancement staff, scientists, educators, exhibition specialists, volunteers, operations staff and others.
The expected salary range for the Sr. Development Coordinator, Principal Gifts is $55,000/annual – $62,000/annual. This position is overtime eligible and the AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or 4 or more years of relevant work experience.
- 3 years of non-profit development experience.
- Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, with the ability to easily change writing styles to fit audience, format and voice.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for fundraising events and donor visits.
- Fluency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Raiser’s Edge or other CRM experience.
