Description

Socrates Sculpture Park, a community-engaged waterfront New York City Park dedicated to supporting artists in the production and presentation of public art, is currently seeking a Development Manager to join a small, dedicated staff to expand and support its fundraising and community outreach efforts. 

The Development Manager is a full-time exempt, non-supervisory position focused on raising the organization’s visibility, profile, and supporters through fundraising and public relations. The position reports directly to the Senior Director of Advancement and works closely with the Advancement Team.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Grant Management (40%):
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director and consultants to draft compelling proposals and reports for institutional funding opportunities.
  • Research and identify new funding sources aligned with our organization’s goals and strategic priorities.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with funding partners, including inviting relevant staff to events, providing timely reports, and expressing gratitude.
  • Internal Collaboration (30%):
  • Liaise with Curatorial, Education, and Program staff to assess funding needs and ensure proper acknowledgement of support in initiatives and materials.
  • Maintain accurate records of grants and donations in our database system.
  • Partner with Finance to generate clear and insightful reports on funding activity.
  • Prepare quarterly reports on fundraising progress for the Board of Directors.
  • Donor Relations (30%):
  • Oversee the annual appeal campaign and manage all donor communications, including eblasts, personalized emails, and acknowledgement letters.
  • Assist with donor cultivation efforts and special events to maximize engagement and generate support

Qualifications:

  • At least one year of development, communications, and/or arts management experience; past work at a visual arts non-profit organization or art museum is a plus
  • A passion for contemporary art and public engagement
  • Ability to commute/work in the Long Island City based office (This role allows for hybrid work but not full remote work.)
  • Experience managing deadlines and maintaining many projects simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail, including proofreading, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of communications best practices, especially as it relates to email and social media
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, CRM database management (Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, etc), WordPress (or similar CMS), social platforms (Facebook, Instagram), and mass email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, etc)
