BPL’s Arts and Culture branch is a library and performance venue situated in the heart of the downtown cultural district and within walking distance of two historic BPL branches – Walt Whitman and Pacific. An ever-changing collection and unique programming output will reflect the dynamism of the neighborhood. 

 

This unique cultural hub housing a branch of Brooklyn Public Library in addition to the Museum of African and Diasporic Arts (MOCADA), 651 Arts, and Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) archives and film theaters and adjacent to The Center for Fiction, Mark Morris Dance, Theater for a New Audience, and the main cultural campus of BAM.

 

The Cultural Programs Coordinator is an exciting and unique full-time position within Brooklyn Public Library’s cultural programming department, BPL Presents, reporting to the Vice President of Arts and Culture. The Coordinator is responsible for curating and hosting the library’s public programs at the Arts & Culture Library, which will be related to, and expand upon, the artistic offerings of the neighboring cultural institutions. The Coordinator is responsible for designing relevant and inspiring programs together with the BPL Presents department and building collaborative relationships with other institutions. The Coordinator works with the library staff to help connect programs to library collections. The Coordinator also participates in producing large-scale projects and high-profile events at Central Library and other sites. This position is required to work evenings and weekends as required to produce and host events.

Responsibilities

  • Work with neighboring cultural institutions and BPL Presents to curate programs
  • Plan artist and author talks, including schedule, budget, and all aspects of event production
  • Create a full season of programming at the branch
  • Responsible for project management of the events
  • Work with the VP of Arts and Culture and the Development office on fundraising ideas
  • Work with BPL Presents` social media team on marketing events.
  • Communicate with Office of Neighborhood Services, Marketing and Development departments
  • Collaborate with Programming department on large scale productions

Qualifications

  • B.A. and experience in the arts field required, relevant advanced degree welcome
  • Strong interest in literature, visual art, and the performing arts
  • Excellent oral and written communications abilities
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills
  • Familiarity with local artists and arts institutions
  • A commitment to customer service
  • Ability to lift more than 30 lbs
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

This is a non-union, exempt position with a salary range of $76,000-78,000.
