The Department of Learning and Engagement at The Museum of Modern Art supports the Museum’s founding educational mission to ensure that people of all ages and abilities “enjoy, understand and use” the art of our time in ways that add value to their lives. Position summary:

The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Associate Educator, School and Teacher Programs to work as part of a team to develop and deliver high quality learning programs to students, teachers, and the formal education community. Reporting to the Director, Young Learners, the Associate Educator forges partnerships with teachers, educators, artists, New York City’s Department of Education, principals, and other education organizations to build relationships, glean insights into student, teacher and school system needs, and continually improve the operations and pedagogical praxis of MoMA Learning Specialists and staff. They also manage and contract a wide variety of contractors and consultants to deliver and evaluate programs. The Associate Educator will also conceive and co-conceive, manage, and facilitate meaningful initiatives that provide impactful experiences, attract new audiences, and engender critical conversations.

Specific responsibilities include:

Manages the operations of the onsite school tour schedule, including scheduling Learning Specialists, overseeing the timetable of tours, resolving challenges of all types including late arriving schools, incomplete groups, sick staff and absences, in-gallery incidents etc.
Conceives, co-develops, and facilitates high quality and meaningful school programs, including tours, professional development for teachers, and partnership programs.
Identifies relationship-building opportunities and partnerships with the school community in New York and beyond to maximize engagement locally, regionally, and internationally.
Infuses the goals, perspectives, and interests of the student and teacher community (and other target communities) into planning conversations, decision making, and institutional vision-setting.
Organizes exhibitions of work by program participants as well as affiliated programs and events.
Works with MoMA colleagues to effectively manage partnerships, memberships, passes, and reciprocal arrangements. Works with colleagues in Learning and Engagement and curatorial departments to initiate, coordinate logistics for, and produce programs.
Advances production for recurrent and one-off programs, including research, production schedules, marketing and audience outreach, and contracts.
Assists with the documentation, evaluation and assessment of programs.
Manages the work of contractual educators and teaching artists.
Works with colleagues from curatorial, Exhibition Design and Production and Graphic Design on ensuring the accessibility of exhibitions.
Documents and evaluates School and Teacher Programs, both at the Museum and off-site.
Serves as liaison with external partners and departments across MoMA.
Gathers pertinent data, contributes to evaluation and report writing, and tracks expenses.
Coordinates marketing efforts and writes and edits promotional content.
Initiates, develops, and collaborates to deliver evaluations of projects for and with the public regularly to better understand and address school community interests and goals and to make visible the Museum’s impact to staff, stakeholders, and communities, collects and archives key outputs, and measures key outcomes of community engagement activity.
Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, museum education or related field, master’s preferred, and five or more years of progressively responsible relevant experience working in museums or the cultural sector, or equivalent.
Demonstrated experience in community capacity building, cultural development, civic engagement.
Experience coordinating events for adult audiences and incorporating feedback into program design.
Experience evaluating programs for impact.
Facility with public presentation and convening diverse public groups.
Strong cultural competencies and consciousness of cultural identities and differences.
Experience managing project and program budgets.
Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, negotiation and team-building skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with a wide variety of individuals and groups, with an emphasis on tact, diplomacy, flexibility, and professionalism.
Exceptional time-management and personal organization skills.
Proactive communicator with excellent written and verbal communication.
Ability to demonstrate flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Bilingual Spanish (preferred).

Salary: The salary for this position is $79,435 per annum.
