Salary:  $48,400 – $51,400


Description

 BASIC FUNCTION:  The Associate Registrar assists the Head of Collections and Senior Registrar in the management of the museum’s collections and is responsible for a broad range of registration and collections care functions. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:                                       

  1. Maintain proper care and housing of objects in storage and undertake annual inventories.
  2. Coordinate permanent collection gallery installations.
  3. Process and catalogue new acquisitions.
  4. Collaborate with curators on conservation projects, including identifying and contracting with appropriate conservators.
  5. Execute correspondence and necessary documentation for extended loans, including condition reports, and coordinate logistics including packing, shipping, and insurance arrangements.
  6. Assist with processing outgoing loan requests, including review of facilities reports from borrowing institutions.
  7. Coordinate ongoing photography of the collections and maintain annual photography budget. Add/update images in database and manage existing digital image library.
  8. Oversee environmental monitoring and reporting.
  9. Handle internal and external requests for information about the collections.
  10. Coordinate updates to collections management database and online database. Revise and update database records. Work on ongoing database cleanup projects.
  11. In collaboration with the Head of Collections and Senior Registrar, maintain collections management database standards.
  12. Process internal and external image and rights and reproduction requests. Research copyright for objects as needed. Serve as the point of contact for third-party image repositories.
  13. Assist Head of Collections and Senior Registrar with any aspect of managing temporary exhibitions, as needed, including installation and deinstallation.
  14. Serve as a courier for outgoing loans or traveling exhibitions, as needed.
  15. Serve as primary supervisor of department interns.
  16. Other duties, as assigned by the Head of Collections and Senior Registrar.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or related field; M.A. and/or Museum Studies certificate preferred.
  2. Minimum of 4 years of museum registration experience.
  3. Knowledge of ethics and professional practices governing museum registration, proper art handling techniques, basic preventative conservation methods, fine art packing and shipping standards and experience condition reporting required.
  4. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing tasks and demands.
  5. Communicate and work with all levels of constituents effectively.
  6. Exceptional organizational skills: ability to set priorities and adapt as these priorities shift, handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
  7. Display excellent judgment, while operating in a flexible and professional manner
  8. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Teams as well as TMS collections management systems.
  9. Ability to work occasional evenings and able to travel, when necessary.
  10. Must be able to lift heavy objects (up to 35 lbs) and climb ladders.
  11. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
