Description

The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, (NPG) seeks an experienced museum exhibition designer to perform exhibition planning, design, management, and installation oversight, under the general supervision of the Head of Design & Production.

Our ideal candidate will have knowledge of the principles, techniques, and methodology of museum exhibition design – including space planning, visitor traffic flow, object preparation, spatial color schemes, lighting, audio visual (A/V) installation design, printed materials (posters, booklets, and brochures), security methods and systems – in service of solving exhibition design problems and designing the optimal visitor experience.

Applicants must have the ability to use CAD software to produce detailed architectural drawings and specifications to convey complex structural concepts to other stakeholders, and the ability to use graphic design software to convey visual information about exhibition design aesthetics. Applicants must also have experience specifying appropriate construction materials, tools, and equipment, as well as the ability to estimate material and fabrication costs, and produce contract documents and specifications.
