The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City is one of the premier science, research and cultural institutions in the country.
The Museum is seeking an individual to work within and across multiple teams to facilitate the administration, operation, and evolution of the Museum’s learning management system (Moodle); to design and deploy solutions that enhance the experience or productivity of its flagship online teacher education program, Seminars on Science; to design and deploy solutions that serve faculty, staff, and students in the Museum’s MAT Earth Science Residency Program; and to provide consultation and guidance for the use of technology to support program outcomes for Education and the Museum at large.
More specifically, the position will provide support for the ongoing integration of technology within the teaching and learning functions of the Museum’s Education Department.
Position Summary
Much of this work of this position will include attending to the support of the Moodle learning management system, which is used to support online programs at the Museum (e.g. Seminars on Science) as well as to augment on-site efforts. (Knowledge of Moodle is not a prerequisite for the position, but, rather, can be learned on the job). The position will help support the creation of innovative online offerings, will aid in troubleshooting existing offerings, and will work with the Museum’s IT department to administer the Moodle application (including revisions and updates).
In addition, this position will also support the Teaching, Learning and Technology workshops of the Museum’s Master of Arts in Teaching Earth Science Residency Programs. Current workshop themes include electronic whiteboards, clickers, digital tools and resources, and Google Earth. The position will help organize and support these workshops, with opportunities to participate in the instruction.
The expected salary range for the Learning Technology Specialist is $65,000 – 77,500/annual. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
Pay will be determined on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience with command line interfaces and folder structures
- A high level of organization.
- A growth mindset, and an enthusiasm for learning and working within a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in educational technology or related field.
- Experience in the use of learning management systems.
