About The Education Department
The Met’s Department of Education—dedicated to making art meaningful and accessible for everyone— is central to the mission of the Museum. GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
You will support programs that connect adult museum visitors with creativity, knowledge and ideas. You will support planning and logistics for talks that take place in the museum’s auditorium, lecture hall, and galleries, large-scale cultural convenings, and art making activities in the galleries and classrooms for general and academic audiences. You are a key communicator, identifies solutions, and implements tools and processes that increase efficiency and effectiveness. The Program Associate has excellent organizational skills and is able to manage multiple, logistically complex activities simultaneously within a museum setting.
This is a permanent, full-time position. Some evening and weekend hours required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Support in-person and hybrid talk-based and art making programs with logistical support
- Act as primary point of contact for external speakers, artists, teaching artists, for logistical and administrative aspects of program development
- Process contracts, presenter agreements, and invoices
- Build online program listings and help develop other audience facing program materials
- Book rooms and coordinate set-ups and logistics for events
- Work closely in museum data systems to ensure program registration set up, staffing requests, and digital signage information
- Purchase materials and art supplies, prepare materials for programs, and help keep equipment in working order.
- Work collaboratively with programming staff to manage internal planning documents and keep abreast of logistical needs
- Respond to Museum and public inquiries, serving as a key front-line contact for the Public Programs and Creative Practice team
- Assist with the execution of events and represent the Museum with the public as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Demonstrated experience in art, art history, studio art or related fields
- 1-2 years of experience working in administrative, program, project or event support
- Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to act proactively
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Experience working with artists, scholars and big thinkers
- Special events planning or project management experience
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-based environment
- Experience and comfort with databases/information systems (such as Workday, Sitecore, Artifax, and Tessitura), required; familiarity with Figma, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, preferred.
- Full command of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
COMPENSATION RANGE:
- Pay Rate : $29.93 / Hourly

Location Requirements
At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
