Deputy Editor/Researcher at NYU – The Latinx Project

We are seeking a dynamic and organized Deputy Editor/Researcher to join our team for 10-20 hours a week at $35-40 per hour, based on experience. This role primarily involves overseeing the editorial process for TLP’s digital publication Intervenxions, maintaining quality control, and managing authors and editors. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and timely publication of content while adhering to TLP’s standards and guidelines.

Scope of Work

  • Research innovative strategies to support arts and culture programming that further the Latinx Project’s mission  
  • Receive and evaluate article submissions and communicate with contributing writers
  • Facilitate and coordinate the review process, ensuring timely feedback and revisions.
  • Address writers’ queries promptly and professionally, providing guidance and support
  • Plan the editorial publishing calendar
  • Monitor and manage the allocated budget, ensuring expenses are in line with approved categories, primarily focusing on writers’ fees
  • Schedule one to two articles to be released weekly throughout the year
  • Research, Edit, proofread, and factcheck content or assign appropriate editors to ensure high-quality, well-edited pieces
  • Publish final version of articles, relevant images, and article tags onto website platform
  • Draft engaging and consistent social media content following TLP’s standards to promote published content
  • Track and analyze analytics for grant reporting
  • Maintain quality control of publication webpage to ensure accuracy and accessibility
  • Research and implement outreach strategies to increase readership
  • Assist with annual meeting with Intervenxions Editorial Board
  • Consult with TLP Team members to align content with programming and enhance synergy across projects
  • Reach out to faculty community to publish their work in Intervenxions

Salary Range

$35-40 per hour for 10-20 hours a week

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field (English, Communications, Journalism, etc.), MA preferred, or equivalent work experience. Knowledge of Latinx interdisciplinary studies. Proven experience in editing and managing editorial workflows, preferably in an online publishing environment. Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with authors, editors, and team members. Strong attention to detail and commitment to upholding editorial quality standards. Familiarity with website management. Ability to manage budgets and ensure financial compliance within approved categories. Proficiency in social media management and content creation. Highly organized and collaborative and team-oriented attitude. Proficiency in relevant software and tools for editing and communication.
